  1. There are many people that are very good at making scary movies. I do not often partake in scary movies, because I find it has more of a damaging effect on my life rather than a rejuvenating one. However, of the few scary movies I have seen, there are many good tricks that I have been able to pick out that cause the movie to seem scary to me. The scariest part of scary movies are the unknown. In a movie that is scary, you never know what is going to happen next, and that is frightening because you have to be on your guard the whole movie instead of being able to enjoy it. As if the gnawing fear of not knowing what is going to happen next is not bad enough, the producers then decide to throw unexpected outcomes in the movie. This is another aspect that makes a movie scary. Unexpected turns of events are scary in a movie because you do not know how everyone in the film is going to respond and how people are going to get out of bad situations. It is not a comfortable feeling when the producer of a movie throws a curveball at you, so to speak. As humans, we want to be in control. We want to know what is happening next and think that we have an influence on what happens in our lives. But when we watch scary movies and see that the poor characters have absolutely no control over the horrors that are happening, it frightens us. It frightens us because everyone wants control, and nobody wants to imagine if we were in the shoes of the character in the movie without control. It brings us face to face with the reality that we do not hold as much power over our lives as we think we do. That is a very scary thing. There are many aspects of scary movies that make them scary, but I believe that having no control and not being able to see what is coming next is the scariest part.
